Goreme

The first human settlement in Goreme open-air museum dates back to the first and second century AD. Christian communities lived in caves to escape persecution until Christianity was declared the official religion of Rome. Once Rome became Christian these communities continued to live in caves, accepting of the difficulties of this environment, as it brought them closer to God. During a Cappadocia tour you will learn more about the beautiful region of Cappadocia as well as its cultural and historical significance.

Avanos

Avanos town located by the Red river (kizilirmak) dates back to Hittites period (2000 BC) and was ruled by many civilisations throughout history (Frigians, Persians, Assyrians, Cappadocian Kingdom etc.) The old town originally named Vanessa overlooks the longest river in Turkey and has a long and famous history of pottery production. Using red clay from the river, the township has produced pottery in the region dating back to the Hittites period. Known as a family tradition, with the pottery painted in earthy hues and turquoise distinct to the region. Avanos may be visited on a private Cappadocia tour.
